7 Makeup Essentials to Pack for a Vacation

7 Makeup Essentials to Pack for a Vacation

makeup essentials for vacation

Okay, so this post is about makeup essentials, and when I say essentials, I mean it. Some girls like to get all dolled up every day of their vacation, but I am not one of them. Why? Because usually when you’re on vacation you’re doing your best to cram everything in that you can, and I think we can agree that running around plus makeup is just a bad combination. If you’re having a more relaxed vacation.. well then I still say it’s best not to worry too much about your makeup. Besides, if you’re somewhere warm, you’ll get more of a tan without all that makeup on your face. That being said, sunscreen! If you’re not wearing a foundation with SPF, you need sunscreen. Period.

So let’s jump into it!

# 1: Light Coverage Foundation (with SPF!)

I’m emphasizing the light here because the last thing you want when you’re walking all around that cute little downtown or walking the sandy beach is that heavy, gross feeling on your face that happens when you’ve got a full coverage foundation and you’re sweating. Save yourself from that gross-ness (is that a word?) and opt for a light coverage foundation. You’ll still get some coverage, but it won’t bog you down too much.

Also, if you have a foundation that is a little more on dry side (and by that I mean a foundation that doesn’t require a setting powder), then I would stick to that. It’s nice to be able to skip that extra step (and it’s just one less thing on your face)

# 2: Bronzer

If you read my blog enough, you’ll come to learn that I don’t believe in foundation without bronzer and blush. I consider them essentials. If you aren’t wearing bronzer/blush, then you’re probably going to look like a ghost. Our skin naturally has more than one color, and bronzer and blush bring that natural look back

# 3: Blush

I pretty much explained this one in #2 above, but I want to say that if you’re only going to choose bronzer or blush, then you should definitely go for the blush. There’s something about adding that little bit of flush back to your face that really adds to the natural look. (At least in my opinion)

# 4: Eyeshadow Primer

A couple reasons why I include this. First off, if you get hot and sweaty throughout the day, often your eyelids get sweaty as well. Or maybe oily is a better word for it. In any case, using an eyeshadow primer (like my favorite, UD Primer Potion) will help reduce that oily/sweaty look even without an eyeshadow on top of it.

For the nights where you might be going out and want to actually wear eyeshadow, this eyeshadow primer will definitely come in handy.

# 5: Your Favorite Eyeshadow Palette

Like I said before, you’re probably going to want to wear a little more makeup at some point during your vacation, whether it’s a fancy dinner or going out or whatever. I don’t think there’s really any need to bring any fancy brushes or try to do some dark smokey eye. I think that if you just take a palette that you love (for me, it’s the UD Naked Palette) with a nice shimmer eyeshadow that you can just apply to the lid, then you’re good to go.

Sometimes less is more. You’ll get a natural yet glamorous look if you add that shimmer/satin eyeshadow all over the lid with some mascara.

# 6: Mascara

All of these seem to be connected! Going along with the fact that you might want to wear a little more makeup, some mascara is almost always going to be in the mix. Just wear your foundation/bronzer/blush and mascara if that’s your thing. Or add that little sparkle of eyeshadow. But mascara makes a huge difference and is a must.

# 7: Concealer

I say that this is an essential because you never know when you’re going to need it. Obviously, I highly emphasized the “light” part of your foundation routine, and the only reason I add concealer here is because sometimes desperate times call for desperate measures. It might be just your luck (or really mine) to get a huge pimple on the second day of your vacation. So just in case those little problem areas come up, it’s always good to have concealer on hand. That being said, I don’t think it’s something you should use on your vacation unless you really need.

Hope this post helped you pack your makeup more efficiently, and enjoy your vacation!
