So this isn’t really my usual post. Normally, I give you guys something along the lines of tips, a review, or a tutorial, but this week I felt that it was important to share this video (and my message) with you all.
No lie, this is a pretty hilarious video. Even though it’s something that’s supposed to be meant as a joke, this isn’t the kind of thing that should be put out there for young, impressionable girls to see. Heck, even watching this video as a senior in college, this video makes me feel a little uneasy.
The title of this video is pretty misleading. It starts out with all of the guys telling her how pretty she is and how she doesn’t need to wear makeup, and basically they tell her “Oh, never mind” when they see what she really looks like without makeup. The worst thing for me is how they ended it. I really wish that they had ended it on a better note. Poor Amy! She looks so sad after all of the guys leave and tell her not to take off her makeup. There was no redeeming message to say that “yes, you are beautiful without makeup”, and that is very very bad in my book.
As a beauty blogger, obviously I talk about makeup a lot, and makeup is a big part of my life. But makeup isn’t what makes me beautiful. And it’s not what makes you beautiful. What makes us beautiful is who we are as people. Always remember that!
Now, I’m not saying don’t wear makeup. I think it’s a great tool to give us that little boost of extra confidence that we might need. I know that sometimes if I’m feeling a little down, and I just want that little extra boost, I’ll throw on some makeup! But makeup doesn’t create beauty. It’s not what makes me beautiful. It’s for me and NO one else.
Maybe this message is coming across as a little corny, but it’s true. And seeing this video really made me wonder about the kinds of things that we’re telling women these days. You always hear that guys love the “natural” look, but what is natural really to them? I can tell you from experience that any guy who really deserves you will think you look beautiful with OR without makeup. (Even if you got raccoon eyes from crying or showering in your makeup haha!)
So if you take nothing else from this, take this. Don’t EVER let anyone make you feel ugly. And certainly don’t think that you need makeup to be beautiful. You already are.
