The Christmas season might be over, but winter is here to stay for a couple more months! And you know what that means for a lot of us… DRY SKIN! Well, there a few things we can do to combat that dryness, especially when it comes to our makeup 🙂 So here are your winter makeup tips!
It all comes down to being gentle with your skin and being careful not to over-dry it. When you read these tips, you’ll want to keep in mind what skin type you have. If you have really dry skin, you’re going to really need these tips! (In your case, less is probably not more, except for foundation!)
Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize!
Seriously… moisturize! Daily! You want to keep a really good routine going this winter. Your skin needs it more at this time of year than any other time, and it’s going to make the job of doing your makeup a lot easier if your skin isn’t flaky and dry. (Dry skin contributes to that cakey look, and you definitely don’t want that).
Use your primer
Your primer is going to be especially helpful during the winter because the primer will moisturize your face prior to your makeup. Trust me, dry skin plus makeup (especially powders) is a bad combination. Most of us can’t avoid a few dry patches here and there, so use primer when you can. You won’t be sorry you did.
Opt for liquid foundation
Like I mentioned in the last tip, powders aren’t so great for dry skin, so opt for liquid foundation over powder foundation this winter. Of course, you’ll still want to use your setting powder to set your foundation, but go easy. Use what you need and no more. You’d be surprised how little you actually need.
Less is more*
*when it comes to foundation
I’m a pretty firm believer in this when it comes to foundation anyways, but ESPECIALLY when it’s winter time, you don’t want to cake your skin with product. Your skin is a lot more irritable in the winter, so lots and lots of product on your face isn’t going to help prevent those winter breakouts.
Try a setting spray instead
This one really depends on the foundation you’re using. If it’s a super runny variety like the L’Oreal True Match Liquid Foundation, then you’ll definitely need to use at least some setting powder. Otherwise, you might be able to get away with a setting spray. It’s liquid, so it’s not overly drying to the skin, and the Urban Decay one is supposed to be amazing! Of course, remember that it’ll set you back about $20, so that’s something to think about.
Everyone’s skin is different, so think about how your skin usually reacts to certain products, and play around with it a little. What’s good for me isn’t necessarily going to be good for you. Trial and error. That’s all it really is 🙂 Hope this helped, and stay warm!
