3 of The Best Eyeshadow Primers That You Need To Try Today

3 of The Best Eyeshadow Primers That You Need To Try Today

A primer is arguably one of the most necessary items when it comes to good eyeshadow application. If you’re not using a primer, then chances are, your eyeshadow, even if it looks amazing right after you put it on, looks like a creasing mess by the end of the day. Read more below to see what I think is the best eyeshadow primer.

So if you want your eyeshadow to look awesome all day long, then you definitely need to invest in a primer! They’re good not only for longevity purposes but also for making less expensive eyeshadows a lot more pigmented.

Best Eyeshadow Primer

*UD’s Primer Potion*

Disclaimer: I’ve only tried three different eyeshadow primers: Lorac Behind the Scenes Eye PrimerMAC’s Paint Pot in Painterly, and UD’s Primer Potion. Here’s what I thought of each…

Lorac Behind the Scenes Eye Primer

The Best Eye Shadow Primer

I was fortunate enough to try this primer that came with the Lorac Pro Palette instead of having to purchase it. This is definitely not a primer I would purchase. It’s too liquidy, too thin to be quite effective. Honestly, the formula just isn’t impressive at all. I used this only because it came with the palette, but otherwise, I wouldn’t bother with it. You’ll get creasing eyeshadow in just a few hours, and at the price of $21, it’s just not worth it.

MAC’s Paint Pot in Painterly

The Top Eyeshadow Primers

I was super excited when I bought this from the MAC store in my local Dillard’s! Technically, it’s a cream eyeshadow and not a “primer” per say, but in the makeup world, it’s usually used as such. I thought this was going to be the love of my eyeshadow primer life. Turned out to be much less than that. The price point is about the same as the others, hitting right at $20. I think MAC is a great company, so I was expecting a lot more from their paint pot, but honestly this product just didn’t work for me. I don’t know if it’s to blame on my oily combination skin or what, but this product creased a lot on me. It definitely wasn’t as bad as the Lorac primer, but still, it should have performed better.

UD’s Primer Potion

my best eyeshadow primer

This has been my go to primer for a long time. I can’t get enough of this stuff! When I first started using it, the packaging was quite annoying. It had a little wand that you used to put on the primer, so when it was all said and done you ended up losing some of the product. Since then, they’ve changed the packaging. Now it’s in a cute little squeeze tube, and the formula has also changed a little bit.

It’s a little thicker than the Lorac Primer but not quite as thick as MAC’s Painterly. It’s the perfect consistency if you ask me. A little goes a long way with this stuff, so you can expect that with one tube (costing you $20) with eyeshadow application pretty much everyday will last you about a year. So while, it seems like $20 is a lot of money to spend on a primer, compared to the others and considering how long it will last you, it’s definitely worth it. My eyeshadow has never creased with this stuff, and my eyeshadow always looks amazing. Another thing to note (which should also be true of any good eyeshadow primer) is that definitely helps drugstore eyeshadows apply with a lot more pigmentation, if you’re looking to save some money. With all this considered, the UD Primer Potion is definitely the best eyeshadow primer I’ve tried.
