My Review of Rimmel Stay Matte Foundation

My Review of Rimmel Stay Matte Foundation

Rimmel Stay Matte Foundation Review

It’s pretty hard to find a good quality foundation at a really good price, but I think I may have found one! Now before I say anything else, people have different skin types and look for different things in foundations, so it’s important to note that this foundation isn’t going to work for everyone. Obviously this is true of pretty much any foundation, but this seems to be especially true for this one.

Coverage

As far as coverage is concerned, Rimmel Stay Matte Foundation performs very well. The foundation is a liquid mousse, so it’s not very liquidy. I think this really helps with the coverage aspect because it doesn’t tend to move around like a lot of foundations will do.

I’d classify this as a full coverage foundation, so for most people you won’t need any extra concealer. In fact, with the consistency of this foundation, you could probably use this as your concealer – that’s how good the coverage is.

Application

I’ve only used my fingers with this foundation, and honestly, I wouldn’t try anything else. Most of the time, I’m a huge proponent of using a flat top kabuki or stippling brush to apply liquid foundation, but Rimmel Stay Matte Foundation is a just a little too thick for that.

Besides that, application of this foundation with your fingers just gives a very natural finish that’s hard to find in a lot of foundations.

Finish

As suggested by the name, this is a very matte foundation. Matte and full coverage tend to go together, and there’s a very good reason for that. Matte tends to be flattering on most skin types – especially those with acne problems. Dewy foundations tend to highlight problems areas, so they’re usually better for people who have clear skin.

Here’s me wearing the foundation. (You might recognize this picture from my last post. I wear this stuff all the time!)

Longevity

I’m going to say this right now, this isn’t the longest lasting foundation, but it performs decently. You’re probably going to have some of your foundation wear off by the end of the day, but for the price and the coverage, you really can’t beat it. This is the kind of foundation that you’ll want to use on a daily basis because most of the time, it doesn’t really matter if your foundation wears a little.

Skin Type

The issue that comes with Rimmel Stay Matte Foundation in particular over some other matte foundations is that the foundation is very dry. It’s not liquidy at all, which means that it’s not the best for those with dry skin. If your skin is dry and flaky, this foundation is going to accentuate that and look caky, which definitely isn’t something you want.

For those with oily/combination skin, this foundation is going to be much better for you. I have combination skin that tends to get oily by the end of the day, even when I use a setting powder – which I almost always use with liquid foundation. With this one, however, I don’t feel I need a setting powder at all. The foundation just stays, which is great!

Price

This price of the Rimmel Stay Matte is ridiculous. Ridiculously good! I picked this foundation up at Walmart for $4.99. That price is almost unheard of, even for drugstore brands like CoverGirl, Maybelline, Neutrogena, etc. Rimmel, Wet ‘N Wild, and Elf are about the only drugstore brands you’d find with a foundation for a price like this.

This foundation is worth much more than $5. At least in my opinion. Like I said, it’s not going to work for everyone, but if it will work for you, then more power to you! I think I actually might like this one more for myself than the revered Revlon ColorStay, which has been a favorite of mine for quite a while.

Bottom Line

If you’re someone with oily/combination skin who is looking for a good, full-coverage, matte foundation, then you should definitely give this one a try. For the price, it’s definitely worth a try!
