The Best Setting Powder Alternative

So if you’re anything like me, then you almost always use liquid foundation, which means that you’re always in the market for the best setting powder. I used to find myself buying a new container of setting powder every couple months. If you’re going to Sephora, or even if you’re going to the drugstore, then chances are that you’re spending way too much money just to set your foundation.

In this post, I have created a video for you that you can watch below. If you would prefer to read more information, please keep scrolling.

My favorite setting powder used to be Sonia Kashuk’s Brightening Powder, available for $10.39 at Target. Not technically the top setting powder, but it got the job done at a price that I was happy with.

Still, I felt that there was something that I was missing out on. Don’t get me wrong, I think it’s a good product, but I was sure that there had to be something better. Something that didn’t leave my face super shiny and oily at the end of the day, and I found that something! Cornstarch. Yes, cornstarch. It looks something like this…

Argo Cornstarch As Setting Powder Alternative

You probably already have some of this versatile stuff in your kitchen right now. And how much does this entire 16 oz container cost? I got mine for $1.80 at Walmart. You can also grab some off Amazon for a few bucks more.

Basically, what I do is I use my old setting powder container and just refill it. I happen to like the container for this Sonia Kashuk powder because the white, plastic tray comes out pretty easily making it simple to refill once I run out. Just a spoonful of cornstarch does the trick, and it lasts for months.

Since I started using cornstarch, I find that I need to use less product than I did before, and by the end of the day my face is not an oily mess 🙂 Below is a little test I did. As you can see, there’s a little bit of shine by the end of the day (on the right) and the flash on my camera seem to accentuate that, but when I touch my nose or my t-zone, I don’t feel any oils. Just smooth skin.

Other Alternatives?

Some people suggest the use of baby powder as a setting powder, and while it will definitely do the job, I wouldn’t suggest it. Baby powder is made of Talcum powder (otherwise known as Talc), which has been linked as a possible cause of cancer.

Actually, when I heard about this, I took a look at the label on my Sonia Kashuk powder, and what did I find? Talc was one of the top ingredients! So the next time you use your setting powder, you might want to take a peek at the ingredients label. You might just be surprised at what you find…
