If you know anything about prestige cosmetic brands, then you know that the Urban Decay has some of the best eyeshadows you can get for you money. You might also know that their eyeshadows can get pretty pricey at $44 an eyeshadow.
What is really great about the Urban Decay line is the fact that they sell palettes, which makes their eyeshadows a lot less expensive. Of course, you don’t get to pick the eyeshadows you get, but UD’s already put a lot of thought into this for you.
I think all the palettes are retailing for about $54. They keep going up in price, so don’t wait too too long before you decide. (When I got mine, it was only $49)
Naked Palette
I’m going to be blunt here. If I use only one of the naked palettes while I’m getting ready, it’s this one. Probably gives away the answer here, but I’ll continue anyways. Personally, I think the naked palette has a great range of colors from light to dark that will work will almost any skin tone. What I will say is that there are only 2 mattes amongst the 12 total eyeshadows. They definitely could have done a little better here by, say, including a nice matte brown for the crease when you’re looking to get that smokey look (but I just get that one from my Lorac Pro Palette!).
Seeing as there are so little matte eyeshadows, the palette is very satin-y and sparkly. I don’t think this is a bad thing for younger people, although if you’re older, you might want to stick to mattes and stay away from this palette.
The colors in the palette are very warm toned, but they don’t all look the same. You’ll get a very different look from sidecar than you will from toasted, and of course, half baked is always a welcomed addition!
Naked 2 Palette…
The Naked 2 is a great palette to have especially if you want to have some eyeshadows that are a little more on the taupe/cool side. This will definitely give you that fix, but honestly, warm toned eyeshadows look better on more people than the cool toned eyeshadows. Also the range from dark to light is a little bit different. You get less of the warm, dark brown colors and more of the cool, dark purple-y brown colors. It can definitely create some beautiful looks!
Naked 3 Palette!
I bought this one, and I’m pretty sure I shouldn’t have. I like it a lot, because I think the colors are really pretty. (My boyfriend will probably laugh when he reads this.. He knows how much I love pretty things!) That said, I think already owning the Naked 1 and 2, this one doesn’t have too much to add. The colors are a lot different – very rose tinted compared to the Naked 1 and eons away from Naked 2 – but I think the rose is a little too much for me. Now, if you want to consider the colors separate from each other, then they are worth it but looking at the palette as a set someone might use everyday, I just don’t think it’s feasible for that. Who wants to wear super pink tinted eyeshadow everyday? Well maybe a 5th grade, but I suspects most of my readers don’t fall into this category.
Which is the best?
Depends, obviously, on what you’re looking for, but in my humble opinion, the original Naked Palette is the best. It’s the one I reach for the most over the other two palettes and even over all of my other palettes/eyeshadows. The color range is great and the pigmentation is fantastic. You can hardly go wrong just looking at the colors and picking the ones you like. They all go together fabulously!
