I got a job at Ulta this summer, and while I haven’t got to do hands on makeup helping, I have had the opportunity to help customers find a foundation that is right for them. I got asked the other day about the best foundation for dry skin. She was mostly interested in drug store foundations since she’s just getting into makeup.
She told me about all the foundations that she’d tried, which was no small list! Obviously, I haven’t tried every single foundation out there and I don’t have dry skin, but I do have some experience with what to look for as my sister has pretty dry skin.
Just to kind of touch on some foundations that you might consider to be good for dry skin..
Revlon ColorStay (for Normal/Dry Skin)
Chances are, this isn’t going to be the best foundation for you. I’ve seen it on dry skin, and it seems like it really tends to stick to those dry patches of skin you might have. It’s definitely better than the formula for Combination/Oily skin, but there are better options too.
L’Oreal Lumi Foundation
This actually seems to be a pretty good option. It’s light and gives decent coverage, and it’s very liquidy. It goes very nicely on the skin, so if you’re looking for a foundation that’s less expensive than my top pick, then go for it!
Cream Foundations
This is a little generalized, but it gets right to the point. If you have dry skin, then you should really stay away from creams (and powders too for that matter – if you ask me). Cream foundations are often just a little to dry and don’t have the hydration that dry skin really needs. One exception to this is the Revlon ColorStay Whipped Cream Foundation. It’s not my favorite foundation by any means, but it seems to do okay with dry skin unlike some others.
The Best Foundation for Dry Skin: Too Faced Beauty Balm
Okay.. so technically this isn’t a foundation, but it might as well be one! You get a nice medium to full coverage, depending on how much and how you apply it. It’s such a great foundation, even for those with more oily skin! It’s not too heavy but also not too light. It feels very moisturizing on the skin, and it has a very dewy finish. It works great for those with dry skin – just add a little bit of powder on top if you need it. For those with normal skin, you’ll definitely need a setting powder because it’s a really wet foundation. Too Faced’s BB cream is only $34 for 1.5 oz. Definitely not a bad price for a high end brand!
