Anyone who knows me personally knows that I love Burt’s Bees. Or maybe it’s more of an addiction than love… Either way, this is basically your FAQ for anything Burt’s Bees!
…Cause acne around your lips?
No. At least, there’s no scientific reason why Burt’s Bees would cause acne around your lips. In fact, using a pure wax lip balm (which Burt’s Bees is not – but does contain Beeswax) can actually help acne around the lips.
…Turn you into an addict?
Well, there’s pretty much a general consensus that chapsticks in general are addictive. Supposedly, they moisten your lips and dry them out at the same time. Plus, they usually taste good so that’s another addictive factor. So yes, in general, Burt’s Bees will turn you into an addict, but so will any other chapstick. So unless you really need it, stay away from it as much as possible. (Trust me, this is coming from a chapstick addict.) Problem is, if you’re reading this you probably already are one!
…Cause allergic reactions?
Everyone is different, and some people have very sensitive skin. In particular, some people have allergic reactions to peppermint in lip products. If you’re worried about it, I would suggest trying it from Walmart, and if you have an issue with it, their return policy is great.
…Work?
Depends on what your definition of work is, but yes it does do it’s job. It moistens your lips – temporarily, of course. I personally prefer Burt’s Bees to Chapstick and EOS.
…Have SPF?
No, it does not.
…Contain alcohol?
While some Burt’s Bees products do contain alcohol, their lip balm does not.
…Contain gluten?
Burt’s Bees does not state that any of their products are “gluten-free”. Even if a specific product doesn’t contain gluten, it could have been manufactured in contact with gluten. If you want to read more about this, check out this link.
…Contain petroleum?
Burt’s Bees lip balm does not contain any petroleum and is even safe enough to eat!
…Contain lead?
Unfortunately, I can’t give a definitive answer here. No where on my Burt’s Bees chapstick does it mention lead as an ingredient. BUT, in on their FAQ page, their ambiguous answer regarding lead in their lipsticks (NOT chapstick) says to me that yes, some of their products do contain lead, although within legal limits of course.
…Contain salicylic acid?
Burt’s Bees chapstick does not contain salicylic acid, but if this is a concern for you, you should be aware that SOME of Burt’s Bees’ products do, such as their lotion which contains 1% salicylic acid.
…Help cold sores?
It’s hard to make a generalization for everyone, but there are some people who do claim that the lip balm helps with cold sores. Keeping your lips protected has the potential to reduce instances of cold sores.
…Expire?
Yes, it does. According to their FAQs, their cosmetic products are meant to last for about 3 years after manufacture but should be used within 12 months of opening. The expiration date is also listed on the products packaging.
…Have different flavors?
Yes! Check out their different flavors here!
Hope this post helped with all your questions about Burt’s Bees lip balm!
