I’ve been thinking about doing a roundup post for a while now, but I’ve been trying to think of something y’all might need tips on. When I get compliments on my makeup, I feel like people are always asking me how I do my cat eye. I think this is something that can be very intimidating and hard to get right for someone who’s never done it before. So for this week’s post, I’ve contacted some of my favorite beauty bloggers and asked them to give me some tips on how they create the perfect cat eye!
Kayleigh, CoutureGirl
My top tip for the perfect cat eye is to use a felt tip style liquid liner. They’re totally foolproof and allow much better control than ones with a brush applicator! My favourite is the 24hr felt tip liner from Collection. Another tip to ensure you have even flicks is to start from the corner of your lower waterline and flick upwards, rather than trying to guess where the line should go. This will ensure it follows the natural shape of your eye!

I think that the perfect flick comes with practice – with A LOT of it. You just have to keep trying and trying until you get it right! Everyone has got a slightly different eye shape therefore you need to find what shape and technique suits you the most. Plus I’m a strong believer in a good quality liner – I only use Eyeko Liquid Metal and Joan Collins Frameline, they stay on until you wash them off and you can even rub your eyes during the day!

Christine, 15 Minute Beauty
I’m not the most coordinated person when it comes to a great cat eye, so I cheat! I use a piece of scotch tape on my face. I put it between the end of my brow and my eye, which is the perfect angle for a cat eye! I draw just a small tail for my cat eye, and I clean up any mistakes with a pointed q-tip.

First and foremost, practice makes perfect. Start lining with a pencil instead of a a liquid liner– it will be easier to remove if you do slip up. And if you do mess up, use a Q-tip and dip it in to a moisturizer to remove excess product without having to start over. Trust me, it works! Also, don’t be afraid to use a tool like The Makeup Guard. Simply hold the ruler side of the guard at the outer corner of the eye and lie the brush against the card and draw out. It will give you a much more even cat eye!

I find that the best way to create a cat eye is to use liquid eyeliner in a marker form, for more precise application, and to just go for it, without worrying too much about messing up. Once you have eyeliner everywhere you want it, you can then worry about getting rid of it from where you don’t. I like to keep DHC’s olive oil saturated cotton swabs nearby for a quick and easy touch up.

Amber, Rouge 18
The perfect cat-eye is about finding a drag-free liquid liner that’s heavily pigmented. Right now, I love Physicians Formula Sexy Booster Cat Eye Collection Liquid Liner and Lise Watier Feline Eyeliner for their ease of use. Draw the wing on first up toward your brow, then connect the line from the inner corners of the eyes extending outward. Lastly, finish it up with a precision Q-tip dipped in some eye makeup remover to sharpen the line and you’re good to go.

Bets, Beauty Bets
I am, admittedly, not a makeup artist but I DO love to throw a few flairs in the corner of my eyes to emphasize a cat eye and create some glamour. Meow! Ardell’s individual lashes are lovely and such a steal.

Jenny, Good, Bad, & Fab
Use a liquid eyeliner for smudge-free long-lasting wear and precision. I like to use Youngblood Eye-mazing liquid liner. The thin tip is easy to control and versatile enough to create both thin and thick lines.

The cat eye is all about mastering the “flick.” You know, that slight flick of your wrist at the outer corner of the eye where you sweep the liner up and out. The only way to feel comfortable with this technique is to practice, so here’s a trick to creating a cat eye. First off, use a felt-tip pointy liner. It’s easier to work with than a flimsy tip or a stiff edge. Line your eye, starting at the inner lash line, stopping short of the outer corner. Then, using your ring finger, gently pull the skin at the temple, place the liner at at a 45 degree angle and draw a line that connects to where you stopped at the lash line. An even easier tip to ensure you get a steady line is to use a credit card or another straight edge and place it at a 45 degree angle from the outer lash line to brow.

And here is my own tip!
Use a liquid liner with a felt pen tip, which gives you a lot more control than brush tips. I always start with the flick at the outer corner and then work my way in toward the corner of my eye. I find that small strokes at a time help you get a pretty clean line, and of course you can always go and touch up after.
I’m very thankful to all the ladies that replied to my message and gave some great tips! Now I turn the question to you, how do you create the perfect cat eye? Let me know in the comments!
