The Best Drugstore Hairspray

The Best Drugstore Hairspray

Over the years, I’ve used a lot of drugstore hairsprays. Through the years of crimping to curling to just trying to keep my hair straight in this stinkin’ Texas humidity!

Hairspray is one of those staples you’ll always want on your bathroom counter. And let’s be honest. If you use them at all regularly, then you’ll go through them like that box of Oreos in the pantry. And the hairsprays they sell at Ulta and Sephora are really expensive!

Some of the best hairsprays you’ll find at your local beauty store are Kenra and Sebastian. Some people can’t get enough of these hairsprays! Ulta actually offers a promotion every once in a while for a free travel Sebastian hairspray with the purchase of regular sized spray. You would not believe how many people flocked to Ulta for that deal when I worked there.

The one thing that’s really great about these hairsprays – other than the super strong hold they provide – is the how little they add to the weight of your hair. Of course, you can always use too much hairspray, but these hairsprays don’t give that really heavy feeling to the hair – not the way you find with most drugstore hairsprays.

That’s what we’re looking for in a really good drugstore hairspray. Maybe it doesn’t give quite as strong of a hold as these higher end hairsprays, but we really don’t want to weigh the hair down so much. That’s the worst. At least for me!

So let’s just cut to the chase. There are two hairsprays at the drugstore that I think do a pretty good job at this.

Is John Frieda's Hairspray The Best Drugstore Hairspray?

John Frieda Luxurious Volume Forever Full Hairspray

This is probably the better hairspray. With really great hold and a very light impact on the weight of your hair, it’s very close to Kenra’s hairspray. The hold isn’t quite as good as the Sebastian (or the Kenra really), but the hold from Sebastian’s hairsprays just can’t be topped. If you’re a Kenra lover but you just can’t afford to spend that much on hairspray anymore, I would definitely recommend giving this John Frieda hairspray a try!

Herbal Essences Beautiful Bold Hold: Is It The Best Drugstore Hairspray?

Herbal Essences Set Me Up Beautiful Bold Hold Hairspray

Although this one isn’t quite as good – it’s got a little bit more weight to it than the John Frieda hairspray, I think the hold is a little bit better. At least that’s been my experience. Of course, you have to remember that everyone’s hair is different, so what works for me, might not work for you.

That being said, this one is a little bit cheaper, and I love the smell! A lot more than the John Frieda hairspray. So it all just really depends on what it is your looking for. If you’re willing to take a little more weight for a better hold, check out the Herbal Essences Beautiful Bold Hold! (Could they have made the name any longer??)

Suggestions?

While I’ve tried my fair share of hairsprays, I’m sure I haven’t tried EVERY single one. Is there a favorite of yours that you think is better than these? Let me know in the comments below 🙂
