Redness. It’s something that I’ve always struggled with and a problem that I don’t foresee going away anytime soon. My cheeks and chin and nose are just naturally red, and when I’ve been exercising? Don’t EVEN get me started! This sound like you? There’s hope! Here’s how I tackle redness.
# 1: Green Color Correcting Primer
This is probably one of the first things that you’ve considered if you’re really worried about redness. The green color in the primer is supposed to cancel out redness. I’ve tried a couple, and I will say this.. The drugstore green primers haven’t been any good from what I can tell. But if you’re willing to fork out the money ($38) for the Smashbox Color Correcting Primer, then I don’t think you’ll be disappointed with the results. Although whether or not it’s worth the cost is up to you.
Recommended uses:
If you’re someone who uses little to no foundation but wants to reduce redness, this could be a good option for you, but like I said, I think you’ll have to go with a prestige cosmetics brand.
# 2: Concealer
I’ve recently become a firm believer in the saying “less is more”. If you’re skin isn’t very acne prone, then there’s really no reason to use a full coverage foundation. If you’re using a full coverage foundation because of your redness, then try this. Use a concealer (preferably one that’s on the dry side, such as UD Naked Skin Concealer) on the red areas (and still, “less is more” applies). Then use a light coat of foundation over top, and you should be good to go.
Recommended uses:
If you’re someone who doesn’t use a whole lot of foundation and really just needs the full coverage for red cheeks, then concealer is going to be the route for you.
# 3: Full Coverage Foundation
Some people need full coverage for their skin, and if that’s you, then please don’t waste your money on those color correcting primers. You don’t need them! All you need is a good full coverage foundation
Recommended uses:
If you have problem skin already, your full coverage foundation should be enough for your redness. If it’s not then that tells you one of two things. Either your foundation isn’t a full coverage foundation, or it’s supposed to be but it’s not a very good one.
You may have heard differing opinions about people who love it and people (like Wayne Goss – if you haven’t heard of him, check out his channel!!) who say if you got a good full coverage foundation, you won’t need it. I definitely agree with him that if you’ve got a full coverage foundation, then that should always be enough to cover up both blemishes and redness.
Hope this helped a little and good luck in your search!
