For those of you who’d like to know how exactly I go about my natural everyday contouring and blush application, this post is for you! I cannot stress enough how important I think a good contour shade and blush are! Foundation alone is going to make your face look unnaturally one color. We want to add that back by contouring and adding blush!
I’ve already made a post on how to properly apply blush, and you can check it out here.
Very important when thinking about a contour shade is that you need to choose the right one for you. You want something that is MATTE. I repeat… MATTE! And you also want something that is darker than your skin tone, but be careful not to go too dark. And you want something that’s cooler than your skin tone! DO NOT use a bronzer. I repeat. DO NOT use a bronzer. I’ve been wrong about this in the past, but I’m here to correct it now! Using a bronzer isn’t going to create that natural shadow in your cheekbones. You want something that is basically your skin tone mixed with grey. (Aka, a cool toned darker color!)
Another extremely important thing is to make sure you’re using the right kind of brushes. This should go without saying, but you’d be surprised what I’ve seen. There are many different kinds of brushes that you can use, but I recommend something like these:
The tarte brush is a very basic blush brush, but I absolutely love it! The middle brush is great for contouring. It’s very small so it fits very well into the hollows of your cheeks. I use the right fan brush to sort of blend everything out at the end, and it does an amazing job at finishing everything up. It can also be used as a highlighting brush!
And what about where to apply your blush and contour shade? Here’s an image I created so that you can see exactly where I contour and apply my blush. It’s really not hard at all! Just remember that less is more because you can always add more blush or contour powder/cream, but it’s harder to take it off without ruining your makeup.
